Informix not coming up with tape drive connected on sgi

Hi The current scenario: We have a SGI Origin 2000 running IRIX 6.4 and Informix 9.14 UC3. The problem: We find that we cannot have a tape drive connected to the system and bring informix up at the same time. It results in a shared memory problem or error being generated by informix to the effect that informix cannot initialise its shared memory. If one removes the tape drive from the system, informix comes up alright and displays shared memory problems. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any clues? Suggestions? Edward
