problems with "SET EXPLAIN ON"
Posted in 1993
hi,
I would like to use the command "SET EXPLAIN ON" to record
how the query processor is accessing the database. The results
are supposed to be stored to a file called sqexplain.out in
my current directory.
This said, whenever I try the command I get the following
error message:
534: Cannot open EXPLAIN output file.
13: Permission denied.
I believe I've tracked the problem down but I can't figure out a
solution. If you know of a workaround I would appreciate if you could
let me know (e-mail seems to be playing a bit better than news these
days on our system). Here is what I think is going on.
The database server resides on a file server. This file server is
mounted on my local workstation (so I can access it) but my local
workstation can not be mounted on the file server (i.e. I can't 'cd' to
my workspace). If I rlogin to the file server, go to a directory where
I have write permission, and execute the command again, everything works fine.
Does anyone know of a workaround for this problem. This command seems
like I useful thing that I would like to take advantage of.
ADVthanksANCE,
