Re: PHISICAL LOGS configuration

Mauro, 1) More information is required, mainly, how many disks do you have? If you have have 1 disk, you don't have many choices regarding the layout, however 5 disks gives you far more scope. 2) If all the space has been created as Online chunks, then yes, all the space belongs to Online. 3) In my experience, many small ones is better. In fact, many logical logs is better than few, whether they are large or small. Also, much depends on the use of your Online system, whether it is a heavily updated system, or mainly used for reads. Then, of course, performance of the rest of the Online system needs to be considered, i.e. buffer cache, LRUS, checkpoints, etc. Can you supply more information? Pisano" <mpisano@ed.gba.gov.ar> at Internet Date: 24/12/96 8:37 AM Hi: I am tryin to improve perfomance in our environment. We have On-line 5.0. The On-line Administrator Guide recommends to define the phisical logs size twice the logical logs size. Other rule is to define both size with a relation 3:1 logical logs vs phisical logs. If I follow this I always have six logical logs. I have 5 GB of disk space for Informix. 1 GB is for the root dbspace and the other 4 GB. for the others chunks. Here are my questions : 1. Is the disk space well managed ? 2. wich is the On-line's space, is all the space or only the root dbspace's space ? 3.shoul I prefer few and large logical logs or many and small ones ? Thanks very match in advance for your help. @@@@ @@@@@@@@@ Mauro G. Pisano @@@ @@@ @@@ @ Analista Programador. @@@ @ @@@@@@@@@ Direcc.
