RE: Blocked checkpoint -

IDS 10.00.FC5 Red Hat RHEL5 We are facing a couple of problems with the Informix Engine being "Blocked", checkpoint required during a long transaction. We have faced this issue several times and each time when the Engine is shutdown and rebooted, we get into a similar situation during Fast Recovery where it states "Waiting for next Logical log to be freed" and the Engine hangs The only solution we can find - is to restore from backup. Nothing else seems to work. - I have tried setting the LTXHWM and LTXEHWN parameters but no luck I also verified that the DYNAMIC_LOGGING parameter is set to 2. There is space in the logical log dbspace. Why are new logs created as needed? I have a PMR open, but there has been very little response on this. Has anyone else seen this before, or can you point me in the right direction? Larry

Yes. Logical logs are being backed up. -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Fernando Nunes Sent: Thursday, September 16, 2010 11:14 AM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: Blocked checkpoint - [21323] On Thu, Sep 16, 2010 at 6:11 PM, Larry Sorensen <lsorensen25@msn.com> wrote: > IDS 10.00.FC5 > Red Hat RHEL5 > > We are facing a couple of problems with the Informix > Engine being "Blocked", checkpoint required during a long transaction. > > We have faced this issue several times and each time when the Engine > is shutdown and rebooted, we get into a similar situation during Fast > Recovery > where it states "Waiting for next Logical log to be freed" and the Engine > hangs > The only solution we can find - is to restore from backup. 1. What is the status of the next logical log. Does it show as backed up?
2. Does the next logical log have an open active transaction. You
can find this out by running an onstat -x and looking for
the column called begin_logpos.
3. Do you have replication (HDR or ER) running? If so there can
be requirements that this log needs to be shipped.
Just some ideas.

Even if the next logical log has an open transaction, shouldn't a new
logical log be automatically created? There is no HDR or ER running.
