We use upgraded E6800's - dual core CPU's added in empty slots. I've also used IBM but only up the time when AIX 5 was released. IMHO The hardware from both manufacturers is good, I prefer IBM because I like AIX as it is more easily manageable and configureable on-the-fly than Solaris. Are you intending to run the DB in a cluster? Sun Cluster is not nice. Veritas Cluster is far superior and IBM HACMP is also good.
