data replication experience, compared with messaging

I am looking for (good and bad) experiences with datareplication, using the tools from Sybase (Replication Server), Oracle, Informix (just released), etc. Besides the possibilities of the distributed RDBMS, including data replication, one can also consider the possibilities of a messaging system. IBM customers report very good results of the IBM product MQ on the IBM internet site (http://www.software.ibm.com/is/enterprice). Has anyone made a study comparing the possibilities, advantages and disadvantages of a messaging system with the advantages and disadvantages of a distributed RDBMS (with or without data replication)?
