I'm considering changing this practice and create my archives with engine activity taking place. A couple of questions: 1. How much of a load does this (on-line/active archiving) place on the engine and what is its' effects on engine service to users? I'm running a distributed environment with an AT&T StarServer E acting as my OnLine server. Will my users notice decreased performance? 2. What happens with changes made in db pages after those pages have archived? I'm referring to a level 0 that normally takes about 1.25 hours to create on my system. In theory, with an active engine, the archive wouldn't be a true copy of the engine due to a laarge number of page changes. I'm assuming I'd need to archive the logical log(s) that were current during the archive process--even if incomplete--to get a true archive, correct? 3. My boss is real skittish about the concept of incremental archiving. He's trying to get me to run a level 0 every day so we have a "true" (his words) archive of the db. Have any of you had restore your systems using the incremental system (combos of level tapes) and what has been your experience? I had to restore a Turbo system a couple of times and it took FOREVER. Is OnLine any faster?? Basically I need testimonials for my boss that I'm not up in the night in trusting the incremental process. Any other quirks, bugs, problems, praises for the archive/restore process would be appreciated. Thanks and e-mail to save bandwidth.
