Setnet yet again
Posted in 1997
OK, people, yet another PC type problem. I've just got Online OWS 7.20.UC2 for Solaris SPARC. Comes bundled with the PC side connectivity tools. Engine installed fine; it only took me 2 attempts (I installed esql/c before RDS and esql/c had a higher release number so I had to reinstall). Problem is on the PC side. Attempting to run setnet gets me a dialog box saying "Could not open the registry". Tres informative. Naturally, I get no further. Running setup.exe and telling it that my SQLHOSTS server is my Win95 box doesn't get me anywhere either. It bitches that "Machine cannot be used as the central registry machine. Select a machine with at least one entry under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE software\\INFORMIX \\ SQLHOSTS registry key". OK, I went & added one using regedit. Same name as the Win95 box. Still doesn't work. I told it to use my unix box. Still doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas? I might add that the networking *does* work, the services, hosts etc files are OK. I can connect using Intersolv ODBC to the Online database just fine. So fundamentals are correct, just something with the Informix setup is stuffed. Needless to say, I'd never have gone near this if I'd had a choice. But somewhere, onmonitor has vanished into the bit bucket. Given I'm just switching from SE to Online, I need all the tool help I can find. Pretty poor effort when you need to use a Win box to administer a unix database. Where's the CDE version of the GUI tools? TIA, Peter Wiley BTW, the 'Informix Unleashed' book is pretty good, even if it does grossly underestimate what you can do with SE.
