committing transactions in JDBC

Hello, I am having problems while committing a transaction from JDBC. First, I setAutoCommit(false), the call commit() method of Connection to make a "savepoint" (init the transaction), do something with the connection (it is done properly) and when I call commit again I receive a SQL error: Not in transaction. I have tested the same sequence with Oracle driver (and Oracle DB) and it works. My Informix database is created with log, so transactions should be allowed. Moreover, I have constructed stored procedures for other tasks which use transactions properly. Maybe there's any "bug" in the driver. I am using Online Dynamic Server 7.2 Any help is very appreciated
