onbar too slow

Hi!
We have a bunch of Solaris 9 Sparc servers running IDS 9.40. All of them
are configured to do onbar backups to disk. Database are on external FC
disks and backups images are going to internal disk of Sunfire v880.
We have years running that configuration and every single backup has
been fast enought. Storage mannager is ISM from the informix original
installation.
Now have my attention on one of that servers. They had suspended onbar
months ago. Now, when I try to do a backup (onbar -b -L 0 dbspace) it
takes a lot of time doing it. I checked disk activity with iostat and
other admin tools, but everything seems Ok.
Only diference I have noted is, they installed and use NetVault client
to do another backups.
Any of you can make me sugestions or coments about posible tunning of
ISM, NSR, onbar, etc ?
Thanks for your attention.

9.40? I may be wrong but by that time there used to be an onbar bug commonly
called 'Very Old Archive Page' that caused a very big slowdown on archives. It
was related (IIR) with different rows versions (from the uncompleterd in-place
alter). The work around was running a dummy update on those tables.

Thanks for your answare, Walter. I follow your 'Very Old Archive Page'
idea and found some comments about that. However, I made the test while
doing a onbar backup, with onstat -g ath|grep arcbackup, then onstat -g
stk <tid> and never found arc_very_old function. So, i'm suposed not to
have that bug.
thanks again.
