We realized a between 2 and 3 times the performance on Informix OnLine 6.0. CPU speed seems to be very important. A later upgrade to 7.10 didn't make any difference on performance for us. On a multi disk/CPU machine it has more tuning options though, but we havent realy started using that yet. Informix says you need at least 4 CPUs to fully realize the 7.10 potentiallity and be able to start any real tuning of CPU resources. The current version of SCO MPX (multi processor extention) doesn't support processor affinity, so this may possibly limit your tuning options. The new version just announced may support this. We are going to buy new machines and a key element for us is Informix's porting plans. Sun, HP and possibly 1 or 2 others seems to be what they develop on, and realease on first. This we expect also results in the best ports beeing awaylable on these machines. Would appreciate comments from others on this though!
