INFORMIX OFFERS PROGRAM TO MIGRATE CUSTOMERS FROM SYBASE TO INFORMIX DATABASES Cost-Effective Solution Meets Customer Demand to Migrate to Informix Technology MENLO PARK, Calif. (October 31, 1995) -- Informix Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:IFMX), the leader in parallel database technology, today announced the immediate availability of its Sybase Migration Program. This solution provides easy migration for Sybase customers and value-added resellers (VARs) who want to take advantage of the scalability and high-performance of Informix's family of databases. The start-to-finish solution includes consulting services and four components that simplify the migration process: Migration Evaluation, Migration Methodology, Information Repository, and Migration Toolkit. "More and more businesses are switching from Sybase to Informix to take advantage of the performance and scalability of our Dynamic Scalable Architecture (DSA) technology," said Leonard Palomino, executive director of the Advance Technology Group at Informix. "This program enables customers to achieve a successful conversion from Sybase to Informix quickly and effectively, without rewriting all of their applications." The program is also targeted at VARs who want to port native Sybase environments to Informix. "We recognize the demand for Informix in the UNIX AE environment," said Bob Tate, vice president of marketing at The Vantive Corporation. "This migration program allows us to port our products to the Informix database platform effectively." Vantive is a leading supplier of integrated customer interaction software. The Sybase Migration Program includes four components bundled with on-site consulting services: The Migration Evaluation enables customers to assess the initial scope of the project and outline the resources necessary to complete the Sybase to Informix migration. The Migration Methodology is a step-by-step instruction guide that provides solutions to common migration pitfalls. The Information Repository is a technical reference that describes the specific differences between Sybase and Informix products such as data types, SQL syntax and utilities. The Migration Toolkit provides customers with software that will automate the conversion from Sybase to Informix including database schemas, function calls and stored procedures. The Migration Toolkit was jointly developed by Informix and InfoSoft, Inc., a systems integrator based in Cupertino, Calif. Customers are utilizing this migration program to take advantage of Informix's industry-leading, parallel-processing database technology. The power and flexibility of Informix's core database technology allows customers to scale their OLTP applications from the workgroup level, to symmetric-multiprocessing and massively-parallel computing environments.
