Fast Recovery Forever !!

Guys and Gals, Could you help me out here. I need some good solid explanation that can convice management (non-techies) with high expectations about Informix. The Online Server 7.13 configured with care and which has been runnning for weeks suddenly went into Fast-Recovery mode automatically. We waited for checkpoints, etc to be completed but it was unable to go Online for the next 30 minutes. Finally, a decision to re-initialize it was done and work continued as usual. The only explanation that was available at that time and since then, was that a deadlock probably happened on one of our most referenced table. Would there be any other explanations for this ??
