Wan Traffic/Disk I/O
Posted in 1998
Hi. Here is the scenario: LAN A LAN B _____________________ ____________________ ------------ | | -------------- | | Machine A |e1______| | | Machine C | | ------------- | \\ | --------------- | |e0 | \\ | |e0 | | | \\____WAN__ | | | |e0 | \\ | |e0 | ------------ | \\ | --------------- | | Machine B | | \\__|e1| Machine D | | ------------ | | ---------------- | _____________________ |_____________________ e0, e1 : 10 mb/sec Machine A/D: UltraSparc 3000, Solaris 2.6, ethernet 0,1 Machine B/C: UltraSparc 2, Solaris 2.6, ethernet 0 Machine A is connected to Machine B (ethernet 0) Machine C is connected to Machine D (ethernet 0) Machine A is connected to Machine D (ethernet 1), vice-versa. Machine B is running a GUI application that requires reading database information (Informix Online Engine 7.24.UC4) from Machine D. (Informix dbconnect ) Method A: Establishing static routes on A,B, and D so that Informix data could be retrieved from D and be presented to A. See above diagram. Method B: Setup another router that requires Machine B to connect to Wan. Setup another router that requires Machine C to connect to Wan. Since we don't control the architecture and the above diagram is the architecture we are given, we are not sure we could do Method B. Questions: [1] Is there a difference in performance in Lan/Wan Traffic and DISK I/O between Method A and Method B. [2] Is there another method of meetings the needs of the application and the architecture. Thanks. Pete. danh@eis.comm.mot.com ------------- End Forwarded Message -------------
