Onbar and large databases
Posted in 1998
I have a system that I inherited that has a 200gigabyte Informix database. I need to come up with a more reliable backup procedure. Currently we use a Spectralogics 10000 tape jukebox, with its accompanied software "Alexandria". The currect backup process does a RPF (?? I think this is right) backup of the raw logical volumes (HP-UX lvm). This requires a full recovery of the entire database if a single disk fails. It also takes 15 hours with the database offline. I am fairly new to the Informix arena, but I had read a little about Onbar. Is it true that Informix only recommends Onbar for databases of 10gb or less? I need to improve the speed and reliability of the backup for this database. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
