Re: Q: Do you know about an OLE2/ActiveX ODBC browser/viewer?

I don't know of such a control (MapInfo or others may have it), but if you realy mean to create this for the Internet (not Intranet) you better look for something other than an ActiveX control. 1. There are many users that can not use an ActiveX control at all, notably those who use Netscape or those who use something other than MS Windows as their OS. 2. Many users don't want to use ActiveX over the Internet due to the dangers involved. Any downloaded ActiveX control have free access to the PC and anything the PC is connected to. We have forbidden our emploiees to even have a browser installed that can run ActiveX for this reason. We are not alone in this. 3. ActiveX controls have to be installed when downloaded. Even though this can be very automatic it's a significant problem. If you have run a number of installs you may have seen the problems related to registry updates and other items. There will also eventually be a bloat of ActiveX controls if many web sites used them. Deinstalling them is also hardly possible. Look for a Java solution instead. Java solves all these problems. If you find one we would be very interested in what you are doing as we need mapping information in our applications. If you are doing an Intranet application the issues are different, and the above problems may not apply.
