Executing Operating System commands from stored proc

Hi Everyone, Firstly I wonder if people will tell me if I'm in the wrong ng, as the past 2 posts I've made have been ignored. Just in case, I'm trying once more..... Can you use the SYSTEM command in Informix-SE, as I keep getting a syntax errror.... *ANY* advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance (and hope) Wicksey
Hi everyone, Many thanks for the replies I got to my original post, and apologies if it came across rude. For those that asked for more information, I am running SE on Windows NT4, and have migrated a database from On-Line Dynamic Server running on a Unix box along with stored procedures. The stored procedure builds a string and calls SYSTEM with that string as a parameter, although this doesn't appear to work on NT. What command should I replace SYSTEM with to be able to call stored procedures from a NewEra GUI? Thanks again for the responses, Wicksey

Is that EXE or COM in the %PATH% environment variable? If you are calling a BAT or CMD file you probably will need to alter your command string to read more like the following: CMD.EXE /C YOURBATFILE.BAT Type CMD /? at command line to get help on CMD switches. If the command string is an internal command to the command interpreter (e.g. copy, date, time) then it will NOT work unless it is "wrapped" in a BAT or CMD, or is prepended with a "CMD.EXE /C" If the program is accessing network resources then you will probably need to change the security context the Informix service(s) run under. I don't have Informix-NT here, but you can check in Control Panel / Services. Good luck --== Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ ==-- ---Share what you know. Learn what you don't.---
