Linux Informix SQLEXEC startup

Team Linux admin Informix newbie. Installed Informix and it works to a point. I cannot get sqlexec listener working for the group that needs it. I have tried several nettypes in informix/etc/sqlhosts. Some attempts didn't start other did but those flashed connection errors when I tested with portqueryui on my PC. Keep in mind my current production system is running AIX and a very old version of Informix. More details when requested. Thanks
If you're discussing 'sqlexec', presumably we're talking about SE (Informix
Standard Engine) and not IDS (Informix Dynamic Server, currently known as
just Informix, unless I missed something recently). If you're not talking
about SE, then you may as well ignore everything else in this message.
If you're not sure whether you're discussing SE, then where are your
databases stored? In directories like database.dbs with all sorts of
C-ISAM .dat and .idx file pairs? Do you have 'oninit' in
$INFORMIXDIR/bin? Do you have 'sqlexec' and 'sqlexecd' in
$INFORMIXDIR/lib? If you have sqlexec and sqlexecd and database.dbs
directories, then you have SE. If you don't have the directories or
programs but do have 'oninit', you have IDS, not SE. If you have none of
the above, we need to discuss what you do have it begins to sound as if
the databases are on a different machine.
Are the clients connecting from the local machine where SE is installed
or are they trying to connect remotely? This will have ramifications.
You say you've tried various things in the sqlhosts file; does that include
using 'seipcpip'? What have you tried?
That'll do to get the discussion started more information is needed
before anyone can give you much in the way of help.

Team today I compared my AIX 5.2 Informix server to my new and improved RHEL6 Informix server and I below is what I found/changed AIX - I can do a port query from my Windows PC and sqlexec runs/starts RHEL6 - I couldn't do a port query nor did sqlexec start I compared sqlhosts file and INFORMIXSERVER AIX (sqlhosts) Sampledev_se_pip seipcpip serverhost sqlexec Sampledev_se_tcp sesoctcp serverhost ifodbc echo $INFORMIXSERVER ---- Sampledev_se_pip Originally on RHEL6 I had RHEL6 (sqlhosts) Sam2_inform seipcpip serverhost2 sqlexec Sam2_inform sesoctcp serverhost2 ifodbc echo $INFORMIXSERVER ----- Sam2_inform which probably caused the sqlexec from starting I modified RHEL6 (sqlhosts) SAM2_inf_se_pip seipcpip serverhost2 sqlexec SAM2_inform sesoctcp serverhost2 ifodbc echo $INFORMIXSERVER ----- SAM2_inf_se_pip I then modified /etc/profile to ensure INFORMIXSERVER was correct The test clients said both Informix and 4js were working I assume that the duplicate name in the original sqlhosts file caused the issue with starting sqlexec. I hope this helps Informix newbies like me. Thanks
