It's weird, but it actually makes sense if you think about it. The archive is essentially a backup of the last consistent state, which would be the time of the most recent checkpoint. If you restore from that backup, then you will need your continuous backups that have been created since the last checkpoint. HENCE, you should base your decisions on what to do with your continous backup files/tapes based on the tbtape -s date of the last archive, rather than when you think you backed it up. -- I am currently writing a book for O'Reilly Publishing about enterprise backup and recovery, and would really appreciate hearing anything you would like to ask me or tell me. If you have problems with something, then others will as well. Can you think of anything else that should go in such a book?
