Needing some pointers (aka newbie)

Ok. Before I ask my questions, know that I'm googling for info and really trying to read any information that seems pertinent. BUT. I'm very very unfamiliar with the informix product, and thus, the reading is a bit overwhelming. Here is the scenario; Our company is switching from Informix to ~something else~ ... We have the venerable and dusty AIX RS6000 upstairs ticking away, managing all of our information. ~enter the boss~ " (boss) I'll need you to extract X, Y, and Z from *the machine* ... Can you do it? " " (the fool) I'll try, sure! " So, I'm comfortable in unix, I log in .. thinking 'I'll write some SQL to extract X Y and Z' and boom .. I'll have what I need. *"Well .... HOW do I run my own SQL queries?"* Is there some command line utility './run_it myquery.sql' which will work with the existing setup? I do not have a manual on site (hence the googling and posting) .... Should it help you get a sense of what's going on here, I discovered the version of the installation: ESQL -> 5.10.UC1 INFORMIX-Online -> 5.10.UC1 Anyway, I'll continue my search, on google and otherwise ... But, if you all have some intro pointers as to where command line tools are, and what they do ... that would ROCK :-) Thanks, Alexander Haley the Fool -- (alex *)(malloc (sizeof (generic signature) * (sizeof (alex)))) Functional Organism Optimized for Battle and Accurate Repair

Look for 'dbaccess'. It should be located in $INFORMIXDIR/bin.

There it is ! Thanks...

The more I'm reading about informix, the more I'm thinking ...
"Hey, this is quite capable..."
I believe that the switch is ~more~ dictated by the application
ontop of informix failing us, and also that the new app isn't
informix based ...
