They both handle store procedures, triggers, referential integrity and all that kind of things, so you will not have to worry about The Data Migration itself. First of all you will have to learn INFORMIX ONLINE'S (I suppose you have selected this engine ) disk arquitecture, it manages pretty well the raw disk i/o, and you should analyze your tables to calculate extent sizes, put the tables with high i/o on a separate chunk ( A piece of space informix OnLine attach to a Dbspace ) and if possible create an offset so that disk's heads don't move constantly to the beginning of the disk. Remember to install and configure OnLine for the initial 'Data Loading ...', remember to create indexes until you have loaded all the data to a table (It is the best way ). Try to check subjects about UPDATE STATISTICS , it's a nice subject around here and it will help you. The Stored Procedures created in INFORMIX ONLINE keep some similarity with oracle spl. Remember that INFORMIX DSA comes with the communication software bundled. If you have your application with FORMS (from oracle) you will have to re-write it in INFORMIX-4GL (Using ESL/C you can write it in C Language) or INFORMIX-NEWERA (Using VCL to run under terminals). If you have your application in WINDOWS (Client/Server Arquitecture) you can install INFORMIX-CLI and INFORMIX-NET or buy other vendor's ODBC drivers for INFORMIX DATABASES. I hope this help, and good luck PS: Remember that INFORMIX ONLINE DSA will work as good as you configure it correctly, and as good as your index strategy.
