RES: sysdistrib table locks
Posted in 2004
Keith,
It seems like they're running right, because no error were reported on the
last 15 days. These scripts are called by a main script, that checks if they
ran without errors. Also a file is with all the outputs are logged on my
/var/log dir.
Now, trying to run manual update statistics with distributions only I found
out that my sysdistrib locks are just disappering and locks on sysdatabases
are going on.
As I run update statistics my system are going better and better, but the
weirdest thing are this locks and that dbaccess returned no errors on a
update statistics high I ran yesterday night.
Thanks

Julio
Obnoxio's scripts are good, but still worth checking they are doing what you
think they should do and that it makes sense in your environment. Generic
command auto-generation is good, but does not work for all situations. Also
has the update stats actually been running successfully, possibly not if an
update now is improving things, do you log the output to a file for later
examination?

-> Keith,
-> The problem is that I don't have any update statistics
-> running right now, or
-> at least they're not appearing in the onstat -g SQL.
-> My servers are suppose to run update statistics scripts
-> every night, from
-> 02:00 to 04:00. I got these scripts on the iiug web site
-> (from Obnoxio I
-> think).
-> I tried to run a manual update statistics high on table "table"
-> distributions only, and my systems are getting faster. Could
-> it be a bug or
-> something on the update statistics commands?

->
-> Do you have many 'update statistics' commands running.
-> These, AFAIK, are the
-> only commands that lock sysdistrib in update mode and will
-> cause problems,
-> and if anyone other than informix is running them they need
-> fingers chopped
-> off !!!
->
-> Are the lock read or update? Silly question, if there is
-> more than one table
-> lock it must be read !! When did you last run update
-> statistics? Has the
-> data, taken at a very generallised level, changed much since then.
->
-> I suspect your performance problem is not directly related
-> to the sysdistrib
-> locks, but they may be a symptom of something else.
