First change the tape device to /dev/null This is most easily done using
onmonitor. On entry to onmonitor ( logged in as informix ) use the right
arrow key to find the archive tape menu entry and change the tape device to
/dev/null.
( you can also do it be changing the onconfig file but onmonitor is easier)
Then exit onmonitor and use ontape to do the archive and change the
database logging at the same time
ontape -s -B dbname
where dbname is the database name; This will set buffered logging. Use -U
in place of the -B for unbuffered logging...and if you wanted to turn
logging off with ontape use -N for no logging in place of -B or -U
