From my experience I will just recommend configuration: Favor mirroring over RAID5 and use stripping to improve performance. We have found that a good firmware stripe set made of N mirrored pairs [2xN drives] will exhibit performance between N and 2N times the throughput of a single drive and if the controllers are intelligent and cached head latency becomes a non-issue. Summary> for maximum performance make sure to use: 1) Intelligent subsystem (I am not familiar with the one you mention but we have used DG Clariion and EMC with great success, if Solstice can claim similar performance and features then ...). 2) Large non-volatile cache. 3) Mirror individual drives. 4) Use large stripe sets made from mirrored pairs.
