Informix on NT versus Informix on UNIX

Hi, I am new to the Informix world. I would like to know how different is the syntax like ability to get connection handle, getting a recordset etc when connecting to a Informix database on NT and when connecting to one on UNIX. Is it safe to assume that if development were done with Informix on NT and then application is ported over where Informix is running on UNIX there need not be any change in the code written. Any information on this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you, regards Vasu
It would depend on the tool you use for developing your application. QueriX provide a 4GL Compiler which can help you develop your programs in an IDE environment on an NT, with Source Line Debugging Features and GUI Front End. The 4GL programs would run on the NT, WIN xxxx, against any Informix DBMS any where on the network. The same programs can be compiled in a UNIX environment. The make file created on the NT can be automatically exported to a UNIX environment and visa versa. More Info: http://www.querix.com/ Vasudha wrote: > Hi, > I am new to the Informix world. We run a few servers, some on NT and some on unix (SCO, Solaris and HPUX). As far as the database server is concerned, there is not difference. We do a DBExport from a machine and DBImport in another without any problem. The client software (Windows based, using VB / RDO / CLI) is not aware of the OS of the server. On the other hand, this only applies to the DB server. I don't know much about development tools. -- Bashar Chalabi CTL, London
