Greetings.
FTP's PC/TCP versions 2.xx (as released to date) are workable platforms
without drama. Here's a general step-by-step process for getting things
going on PC/TCP. If you want a little more focussed answer, please post
a complete blow by blow (hmmm...) description of your installation
environment and procedures.
Assume PC,DOS 5 or greater, Windows 3.x, thin net, say ne2000 or 3com or
such like common card, unix tcp host.
install PC/TCP as per normal instructions without afore (hmmm...) thought
to INET. If ping telnet to engine host is working then I'm happy that INET
will come to the party.
install INET, tell it you've got FTP PC/TCP and follow the rquest to hit the
second largest key on the keyboard.
check that autoexec has informixdir set and informixdir/bin in the path and
the pctcp directory in the path.
HERE'S ONE LIKELY STUMBLING POINT ***********************************
INET and PC/TCP 2.2 require C:\\etc so FTP_ETC doesn't help at all. Repeat
you must use c:\\etc for services, protocols and hosts. oki doki.
Now, hopefully you're trying to get HyperScript Tools or ViewPoint going.
Note that no matter what happens, INET will NEVVVVVVER report an error - I
don't think it even has errors to report...it's pretty lame, really.
Anyway, on reboot, ethdrv reports ok and you're telnet sessions are ok.
so invoke remsql (aka INET) and tell it a host, user and password - the
password bit is mandatory.
If you can't access the UNIX OnLine instance at this point, I'd look at the
UNIX host. If OnLine reports it's on line and local sessions can run
say, dbaccess to create databases etc then check that the sqlexecd daemon
is running (something like ps -ef | grep sql or ps -axl|grep sql) otherwise
nothing is getting in. If sqlexecd is running, check the socket entry in
etc/services (usu. 1525 sqlexec) and that the invocation process is a root
sessions.
If all this checks out ... well ... er ... rewrite in Smalltalk-80 !
Just kidding... I'd be happy to hear from you.
