Error starting IDS v10
Posted in 2010
IDS 10.00.FC5 on AIX 5.3 failed to start with "listener-thread: err = -25572 ... Network driver cannot bind a name to the port" / ASF_LISTEN failed. Diagnosis showed sqlhosts contained three entries for the same dbservername mol_dev, two of them on the same host; Art Kagel advised giving each TCP interface a distinct name and listing the extra one in DBSERVERALIASES. After fixing that, startup got further but then failed on the root chunk (errno 2, later "chunk failed sanity check", chunk taken offline) and ontape -r restore also failed, pointing to a disk/LV problem at the DR site; chunk device permissions were also advised to be 660 rather than 666. No resolution of the chunk/disk problem is recorded in the thread.

Full version and OS versions would be useful. How did the engine stop, was
it a clean shut down or a crash of some sort ?
This error usually indicates some files need tidying up or an application still
has a connection into the network port.
what does ls -al /INFORMIXTMP show ?

No, that's the contents of the message log (onstat -m) at the time of the
startup failure. I want to see what you saw on the command line output when
you ran the oninit -v. This is telling us that you had a problem opening
the network interface. There could be many reasons for that and the oninit
-v output may provide another clue. Also post: the exact IDS version
including the patch levels, your OS version, your sqlhosts file, and the
SERVERNAME, SERVERNUM, and DBSERVERALIASES lines from the ONCONFIG file.

I had the same issue yesterday and determined that I had two shared
memory DBSERV* connection and I can only have one. I also review all
ports that I am allocating. I want to use ports not being used by the
OS and ones that are not being used by another TCP/IP connection name in
the sqlhosts file.
Thanks,

OK your problem is that you have three definitions for the same SERVERNAME
in your sqlhosts file and two of them are for the mtx2informix server
machine which would appear to be the one you are trying to start up. You
can only have one, you MAY be able to have the server on saga have the same
name as the one on mtx2informix, but I'm not sure. If you really do want
two soctcp interfaces to the server on mtx2informix they have to have
different servernames. One of these would be listed in the DBSERVERALIASES
entry in the ONCONFIG file.
So you would change the sqlhosts file, for the local server's entries, to
something like:
mol_dev onsoctcp mtx2informix inf-dev
mol_dev_ekp onsoctcp mtx2informix inf-ekpmatrade
Then in the ONCONFIG file:
DBSERVERALIASES mol_dev_ekp # List of alternate dbservernames
DBSERVERNAME mol_dev
And that should do it.

Hi Azran,
Please refer Art Kagel's advise in other email
To add on one more possible root cause, please check is there any other db
instance or other services using port 50004 as well
Just "grep 50004 /etc/services" to find out.
