How can I insert an empty string (text[0] = '\\0') into a column so that there will be no NULL value in this column? Is there any data type for this case? Thanks in advance, Pascal

In an insert statement just insert an empty string ("") as in:
insert into t3 values ("", current);
The column will return spaces and will pass an IS NOT NULL filter.
You can BTW insert a single space also as Informix pads non-null
strings to full length with spaces when returned.
