Some gems: The installer is a pile of crap, but the install happens easily enough if you read and carefully follow the prompts <-- Installers that install easily enough when you read the prompts usually are a pile of crap... Once Informix is installed, its time to set the baby up. Except, its not all that straight forward, you've gotta dig around the docs to find it, when you do, you realize that you've got to hand-edit two files: sqlhost and onconfig. <-- I think INFORMIXDIR and INFORMIXSERVER would have caused this person more problems than onconfig and sqlhosts... Apparently you've got to manually allocate the datafile within which the base database information lives....And why did I have to manually allocate the root dbspace? No one at IBM knows how to write a script apparently. <-- Everyone likes to have their root dbspace in the current working dir...

I have been installing Informix products for over two decades now. I have never used dd as part of the install process.
