Swapping HDR
Posted in 2014
User asked how to swap HDR primary and secondary roles without restore and with DRAUTO=0. Solution: Use hdrmkpri.sh and hdrmksec.sh scripts (located in $INFORMIXDIR/bin). Run hdrmkpri.sh on current secondary and hdrmksec.sh on primary. Scripts automate the process and restart both instances. User confirmed satisfaction with the solution.

Hello, IDS 11.70.FC7W3X3 AIX 6.1 I thought this should have been simple and maybe it still is... I want to swap modes in HDR. In other words, I want my secondary to become my primary and my primary to become my secondary. I have DRAUTO set to 0 and I do NOT want to have to restore. Is this possible and is so, how? thanx, Dan
Hello. Yes, it is possible and simple. We call it manual HDR failover. Check for hdrmkpri.sh and hdrmksec.sh scripts, in Information Center websites, it´s a cake receipt and an easy process. Regards. Dan These scripts are on your machine in $INFORMIXDIR/bin. Run ..mkpri.. on the current secondary and ...mksec.. on the primary. They walk you through the process and simply work. Both instances will get restarted as part of the swap-over. Thanx Alexandre and Keith. I have played with this and am now quite happy. Dan
You can probably do it by changing DRAUTO, but downtime might be required, even if it just for a few seconds. ------------------------------ On Thu, Apr 3, 2014 10:25 AM EDT DAN MUELLER wrote: >Hello, > >IDS 11.70.FC7W3X3 >AIX 6.1 > >I thought this should have been simple and maybe it still is... > >I want to swap modes in HDR. Hello, Walter. DRAUTO should be used only for automatic failover purposes, without CM. If you have a CM, or you don´t have (like my actual environment) a full high availability environment, it is recommended to do a manual failover (hdrmk* scripts). I have a secondary site for contingency purposes only, not enabled for automatic failover, mainly because of original network architecture built. Hope this helps. Regards.
