Get the applications and use them as a benchmark - nothing else will
accurately simulate the workload you will get with the system.
NOTE: 90% of all performance improvements come from
1. Finding the slow running sql statements in the application,
running them in dbaccess after running "SET EXPLAIN ON". Looking at
the sqexplain.out file produced and adding appropriate indicies.
2. Set OPTCOMPIND = 0 so the indicies will be used.
3. Running update statistics so the indicies will be used.
4. In 4GL preparing often used sql to reduce parsing/optimization
overhead.
5. Adding more BUFFERS as long as swapping does not occur i.e.
getting good read/write cacheing.
