Informix marketing request list
Posted in 2006
Not a technical problem thread: Eric Herber invited the community to submit ideas for how IBM should market Informix, and set up a public web page (herber-consulting.de) to collect and later prioritise the requests, modelled on David's existing IDS feature-request list. David offered to compile a list of community-important bugs too; Madison Pruet noted the reliable way to get a bug fixed is to attach a support case to it and escalate. Neil Truby asked who the list would actually be sent to, and Eric replied that IBM marketing staff read the newsgroup and an addressee would be chosen after brainstorming. No concrete outcome is recorded.

As I already announced in another thread, please send me your requests regarding marketing activities around Informix that you think might be useful and necessary. You might send them as as a reply to this thread or directly to eric@herber-consulting.de. I will publish any (constructive) marketing requests on my website like David has done this with his IDS feature request list. This might help IBM and gives us the possibility to control how seriously takes IBM the new positioning of Informix. Thank you for your support.

Ok folks, I hacked something together. Far away from being perfect but it should be enough to serve as a starting point. http://www.herber-consulting.de/cgi-bin/IfxMarkReq.pl There are currently no priorities assigned. I will add them later after receiving enough requests from you, the Informix user community. Please feel free to send me an email (eric@herber-consulting.de) or reply directly to this thread with your constructive marketing request for IBM Informix. This list makes sure that none of your great ideas will be lost and gives us the opportunity to prove if IBM takes the new positioning of Informix seriously. Thank you for your support. Wish you the best. -- Eric
Thanks Eric this is more constructive. I though if I slammed back hard then this would change from an argument to a constructive way forward. We certainly need a list. I will build a list of bugs that are most important to the community as well.

That way if there is a problem with getting the patch in a timely manner, all you have to do is to esclate the case. M.P.
who exactly are you going to send them to? Neil Truby wrote: > who exactly are you going to send them to? > First of all it is important that we collect these ideas. IBM marketing people are posting on this newsgroup and reading it. So they know where the list is and they can take a look at it. It is readable by everyone, not protected by a password or some kind of registration: http://www.herber-consulting.de/cgi-bin/IfxMarkReq.pl Let's collect the ideas, prioritize them and then we could think about a possible addressee, high enough in the management hierarchy. Let's do brainstorming first. > "Eric Herber" <eric@I-hate-spam.org> wrote in message > news:drgj2i$8le$1@online.de... >> Eric Herber wrote: >>> As I already announced in another thread, please >>> send me your requests regarding marketing >>> activities around Informix that you think might >>> be useful and necessary. >>> >>> You might send them as as a reply to this thread >>> or directly to eric@herber-consulting.de. >>> >>> I will publish any (constructive) marketing requests >>> on my website like David has done this with his IDS >>> feature request list. >>> >>> This might help IBM and gives us the possibility to >>> control how seriously takes IBM the new positioning >>> of Informix. >>> >>> Thank you for your support. >> >> Ok folks, I hacked something together.
