Data Replication
Posted in 1996
TGIF, everyone! I will be attempting soon to setup two servers, a PRIMARY and a SECONDARY that will replicate each other. To be honest, have no idea where to start, so I thought I would start with the vast majority. I have two Solaris 2.5 machines that at this time are running 7.12 UC2. I will be setting them up exactly the same but I am unsure of the way to make them sync to each other. Any help or direction to information is greatly appreciated. I do however, have a question based on when I do have the two machines syncing to one another. Little background: We are a web site that at this time has 3 stages to our system. Engineering (which has it's own machine and db), QA, and Live. At this time, QA utilizes the LIVE database. When QA has finished testing a program/page they push this program/page and data to the LIVE server. I want to eliminate all activity to the LIVE DB with the exception of hits to the web site. So I intend to setup a machine/database for QA to do there testing and at the time they have determined a program/page is ready to be pushed, have them push the data to the SECONDARY machine. Assuming that there is a defined PRIMARY and a SECONDARY my question is this. Knowing that the two machines are always syncing to each other, data inserted from users on the net into the PRIMARY database/server will sync to the SECONDARY database/server, will the same be true if data is inserted into the SECONDARY? Will it sync to update the PRIMARY of the data added to it? Thus eliminating internal activity on the PRIMARY altogether. I hope this makes sense and if it would help to clarify anything above please e-mail me with questions. Thanks in advance, Cheers, - Tamara Tamara Winburn (415)846-7460 Database Administrator (415)842-7415 (Fax) Internet Shopping Network http://www.internet.net Make your taxes easy this year.
