not an ISQL problem at all (the use of let gives it away)... take a look at the clipped 4gl function.... } } ISQL - concat problem } } I need to create a procedure which writes to a special audit table. One of the columns in the audit table consists of several source } columns. The problem I have is when a move the first column of information into a char or varchar data type, isql seems to } automatically "pad" the value. Upon concatenating the 2nd value, it fails, because the contents of the variable is full. } } example: } declare row1 char30 } declare row2 char30 } declare accum char60 } } let accum= accum || row1 -- works ok, except accum contains 60 bytes } let accum = accum || row2 -- ignores row2 value } } I tried using a length function } let x = length(row1) } let y = length(row2) } let accum= accum || row1[1, x] -- doesn't work, appears you can not use a variable within the []'s?? } let accum = accum || row2[1, y] } } Any help would be appreciated. } } } -- regards, +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | . . | Bob Baskett | | ... ... | Software Engineer | | ..... ..... | Business Systems Integration Group | | .. ... .. | Semiconductor Products Sector | | . . . | Mesa, AZ | | | President, Informix Users Group Of Arizona | | Motorola, Inc. | rzbj40@email.sps.mot.com | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
