SQLHosts File

Hi I've trying to find out the effects/impact of changing the SQLhosts file on a running engine. Background. I have a live running engine on a server and want add a second instance to undertake some testing. Obviously this will need entries in the SQLhosts file, can I make these with the live instance still running and secondly will the live instance recognize these changes (ie will I be able to access the test instance from the live instance). Yes, it is safe to add another server to the sqlhosts file while an instance is running. No, I do not believe that it will be recognized by that instance until you bounce it. Art Art S.
