Put the following into /etc/rc.local test with /sbin/hdparm -t /dev/hda and /sbin/hdparm -T /dev/hda /sbin/hdparm -c1 -d1 /dev/hda .... /dev/hdb .... /dev/hdc It will get a tremedous speedup on ide drives, because you have activated 32 bit and dma mode.
