UDRs in 7.3

I was wondering if it is possible to create a C UDR on the Infromix Server version 7.3 running on NT. I don't seem to see the DataBlade modules anywhere although I'm not sure if I need them. When I try to register the function I wrote with the server, the CREATE FUNCTION statement causes a syntax error. When I use the CREATE PROCEDURE statement the EXTERNAL clause causes a syntax error. UDRs are a 9.x feature.
