All -- I am setting up a 7.3 server at home with the following products: 4gl - dev and runtime rds - dev and runtime idb - dev and runtime ods 7.3 The question is, in what order is it recommended I install all the products? Assuming TEN (tools, engine, network), development products first, or runtime? Thanks, -mka Michael Ackerbauer SP System Test

However that it was VERY important to install older product before newer product regardless of version! Whenever newer versions update or change existing files, used also be older versions, compatibility is assured. Where it cannot be assured the files are renamed or moved in the directory structure. 2) You do not need to install runtime versions if you have development versions installed. Informix does not check license quantities at runtime so as long as you have purchased the appropriate licenses you are in compliance with your agreements with Informix and this is OK. If you are still concerned, just set up the runtimes in a separate directory from the engine and development products and point INFORMIXDIR at the runtimes and copy SQLHOSTS there or use INFORMIXSQLHOSTS to point to the engine's copy.
