If you follow what Oracle is doing, and how they have a strong marketing presence, it would follow that INFORMIX would probably want to expand the scope of their operations to increase consulting activity...After all this is the market that INFORMIX wants to go after, looking at the ads in the trade rags. ( I hope they DO expand their presence, which will ultimately benefit little ol' me. :-) While I hear good things about INFORMIX help and customer support, I also hear this same support is improving from the past, which is a very positive thing. Which is what I think the original thread had addressed, talking about certification and squeezing out independent consultants. Personally I don't think independents will be squeezed out, but instead will have to continue to improve their skills in light of the option to certify. You either invest in the software, or the training, or the testing of what you already know, on paper or in the field. How the value of your investment is perceived is probably going to boil down to a marketing issue we must each face. At this point, I'm buying software, and maybe even some training in the near future... Certification could actually increase competition, and strengthen the reputations of many folks who've been at it for a while, indirectly, whether or not they become certified. I like others are certainly certifiable. :-) >[...lots of unread stuff omitted...] Not to trivialize what Tim said but... > > Yours, > Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> -- \\\\|// (6 6) ==============================---o00--(_)--00o---============================ Tim Schaefer tschaefe@encore.com tschaefe@shadow.net Encore Computer Corp http://www.shadow.net/~tschaefe =============================================================================
