LONG isn't an Informix data type; it is used in Oracle, where it approximates to an Informix byte/text blob. If you're processing a text blob, you can write a search criterion on a fixed substring: WHERE textfield[1,12] = "My Criterion" -- unless my counting is askew You can do nothing with a BYTE blob as far as I know. You may have more options if you're using IUS (IDS/UDO, Foundation.2000) smart large objects -- aka slobs -- the BLOB and CLOB types. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.62 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
