may be your odbc connection uses a different sqlhosts file pointed to by $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS; you could try to use truss eq truss <your odbctestprogram> > afile 2>&1 look for something which looks like sqlhosts check that file for the existance of the relaint dbservers, Superboer.
