From memory, Error 5 is a generic I/O error returned for a variety of reasons. You could try /usr/include/sys/errno.h or the like for a description. Not a lot of help I know, but it could be anything from broken hardware to wrong tape formats. The last time I saw error 5, I was trying to read 5Gb tapes on a 2.3Gb drive...D'Oh!!! Bryan Tonnet
