I'm not sure what you mean by 'hanging' the Online engine. But my
experience with tbcheck is that it always aborted, or get hung, or
whatever when I run it on a large database (1.5 gigabytes or more).
For example, running tbcheck -pe is totally useless because it
generates a huge temporary file.
For tbcheck options which let you specify whole database or tables, I
would simply generate list of tables I want tbcheck to check, and run
tbcheck on each table. This is easily done as follows:
$ isql <database> -
> unload to "tables" select tabname from systables where tabid > 99;
> <control-d>
$ IFS='|'
$ while read table; do
> tbcheck -pt <database>:$table > $table.pt> done < tables
$
If I try to use 'tbcheck -pt <database>', I will always get ISAM error
after some Nth table. Does not matter how big the database is, just
how many tables you have in the database.

I can agree with that ! We have over 100 runtime sites, and we are
locked in at particular version level until we upgrade ALL sites
first. We are still using Online 4.00 (gasp!!!) at sites, and I think
by next week (I hope !!!) we will be getting Online 5.01 to send out
to all sites world wide. The Online 4.00 was installed more than
three years ago. We had to live with Online 4.00 bugs for a long,
long time.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can use 5.02 tbcheck with 5.00 engine. Try
it, the worst you would get is hung tbcheck. Remember, try it on a
system you can afford to lose ;-) (means you back it up, or try it on
a demonstration system).

Hope I have been of some help !
