} The only way I'm aware of to defragment a table is to unload, drop,
} create and reload the offending table. The so-called "Defragmenters"
} on the market that I have looked at simply provide a front end for
} this task.
}
} As far as as determining which tables have too many extents, this
} script will do it:
}
} dbaccess sysmaster <<EOF
} select dbsname,tabname,count(*) from sysextents
} group by 1,2
} having count(*) > 8
} order by 3 desc
} EOF
}
} Again, there are tools that will provide prettier output, if you like
} that kind of thing.
} Of course, you can tweak the SQL to be more selective.
}
} If there is some "in-place" DOS-Like defragmenter available I would
} also like
} to know about it.
