Copy Informix Chunks using dd ?

Hi,
We are thinking to copy one of the chunks (which has database
system tables and other small tables ) using dd unix command in a
dbspace to a new raw device, break the existing link and relink the
new raw device with same path, because it is a big database and we
need to release a raw volume because of some Volume manager reorg.
Instead of using either HPL or dbimport/export which takes lot of
time, so we are thinking to copy only one chunk which is less than 4
GB takes less time. Did any one try this and worked? Any comments,
suggestions are greately appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It has been done, it does work.
It is not supported.

As long as the instance is offline you'll be fine, make the block size
nice and large and it will fly along

Another option is to get the engine to do the work.
Create the new chunk on the new device as a mirror to the first,
existing chunk.
Change the new chunk to be the primary, break the mirror and voila! You
data is moved!

Hello Thank you all,
Copying the chunks with dd command
worked very well, with no issues. However I have to try the mirroring
option mentioned by Jarrod Teale.
Thanks you
