Informix CSDK 2.90 and visual studio 2008
Posted in 2010
Poster using CSDK 2.90 with Visual Studio 2008 found that decimal values returned via the Informix .NET DataReader lost their decimal separator (2000,00000000 shown as 200000000000). Respondents said this was a known bug fixed in later CSDK releases (3.50.xC6/xC7) and recommended upgrading. Since older in-house tools needed 2.90, Art Kagel explained multiple CSDKs can coexist in separate INFORMIXDIR locations with INFORMIXSQLHOSTS/PATH/library paths switched per application. The poster accepted this and leaned toward moving to the latest CSDK; no confirmation of the fix is recorded.

Hi, When I make a simple query to my Informix DB, I get the results, but decimals appear an if not having the decimal separator taken in account. Eg. 2000,00000000 appears as 200000000000. This is using the informix datareader. Do you have aby idea about this issue?
I think this was a bug, current CSDK is 3.50TC6 or newer Joerg Volz ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of JUAN CARLOS PEREZ O. Hello Joerg. Thank you for your reply. I knew of the new versions, but for some incompatibilities between some utilities currently in use and versions greather than 2.90 I was trying to use that version. In this case, it will be useful to know if it is possible to have a level of coexistence between csdk 2.90 and greather versions, so the tools that need 2.90 keeps working.

Ok. I know that multiple CSDS installation is never recommended by IBM, but I have some servers here that does have more than one version installed. My suggestion is to keep only the latest, and I don´t know about any issues of incompatibility over upgrading it, (since the new version doesn´t have any APAR detected, over your application features ok?) Did you already try to upgrade it, and the applications indicated some troubles???? Best regards. Hello again, thank you for your time. Indeed, I have already made some tests, and the new versions of the csdk, made my other tools to stop working. I even tried once the versions 2.90 and 3.50, but the problem remains. Esentially, the problem is support for older tools, but for the new application I did not find any issues until now. I am currently considering to find some replacements for those version specific tools and use the latest version of the csdk. I know that your suggestion to upgrade is the way to go :) Best regards.
You can have multiple CSDK versions installed (I think that Jonathan may have about 12 on his machine). You just should have the one released with your engine version installed in the engine's INFORMIXDIR and all the others in their own private INFORMIXDIR locations. If you set the INFORMIXSQLHOSTS variable to point to the sqlhosts file in the engine's installation you can change INFORMIXDIR, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, PATH, etc. to point to the appropriate CSDK for the application that you need to run. That said, it is a good idea, when possible, to recompile with the latest CSDK. Art Art S. I have seen a technical article on the web (on informix.com??) describing parallel CSDK 3.xx Installations on Windows (as you told working with Visual Studio you need for Windows, right?), but I did not bookmark it, because I prefer clean client installations. Thnak you for your suggestion, Art, sounds good to me. I will try to test that config. Anyway, it certainly seems that my best option is to use the latest CSDK. Thanks for the tips, have a nice day :)
Joerg, thank you for your time. Yes, I want to develop a solution based on windows, using Visual Studio. I also would prefer not to have multiple versions installed, as that could cause some kind of problems. Anyway, I will search for that article, I'm sure it will give some interesting hints, tips and information about this issue. Thank you.
