Thanks for all the help (past and > present) Before compressing the table ALTER TABLE ... NEXT SIZE n; then compress the data. BTW in case noone has mentioned it rather than unload and reload consider using ALTER FRAGMENT ... INIT IN ...; This works fine for unfragmented as well as fragmented tables and can compress the table into the same or a different dbspace and does NOT require room for the entire copied table to work. It is the FASTEST way to defragment a table. Art S. Kagel
