HI,
We installed IDS 10 UC5 on AIX5.3.
onstat -version:
Program Name: onstat
Build Version: 10.00.UC5
Build Number: N202
Build Host: ibm6c1b
Build OS: AIX 5.2
Build Date: Thu May 18 00:09:08 CDT 2006
GLS Version: glslib-4.00.UC8
oslevel:
5.3.0.0
My question is, to enable AIO in AIX, sounds we have two options:
run command smitty,
smitty >> Devices >> Asynchronous I/O:
Posix Asynchronous I/O
Asynchronous I/O (Legacy)
Which one should we turn on? Posix Asynchronous I/O or Asynchronous
I/O (Legacy) ?
Looks , it would be EXTREMELY slow if we turn on " Posix Asynchronous
I/O" when we do dbimport! We use raw devices.
Any explanation or recommendation are appreciated.
Thanks,
Frank
The legacy driver is the one to use. We use it since several months and have no problem with it. Regards Anselme
You should consider applying the AIX 5.3.0.5 fix level.
Our experience with IDS 10.00.UC5 on AIX 5.3.0.0:
We implemented this system for a customer and at times all access to the
database server gets cut of and all connection attempts fail (both local and
remote connections and even user informix won't be allowed on it) with the
following error message in the log:
"listener-thread: err = -951: oserr = 2: errstr = user@hostname: Incorrect
password or user user@hostname is not known on the database server. System
error = 2."
Informix TS told us to apply some OS patches and AIX TS told us to apply the
5.3.0.5 fix level to get these patches and quite a few others available.
We still don't know if this actually fixes the problem (as we haven't applied
it yet) or if it was just a suggestion to get us to stop pushing TS for a
solution. We'll see how it goes.
