It's nice to see Microsoft adopt standards from somewhere besides themselves. Trojan Horse marketing can be adopted to a variety of products if you want to get things into the mainstream. ( I doubt seriously that INFORMIX wants to be mainstream though but that's another thread ) I'm just really curious to see where INFORMIX stands on Java, and what they're going to do with it. It's inevitable that once Universal Server comes out that folks will want Java apps and applets to work with Universal Server. And I don't mean just compatibility. I mean that Java is an integral part of the engine. Already there's vendor announcements about integrating Java into Operating Systems. This is just too big to ignore. It's exciting to know that I can learn a new language and application development environment that will be extremely mainstream and found everywhere. I've already been experimenting with a Bourne Shell Script Java Code Pump to create a one- table maintenance screen in Java. It's fun. I take and make a nice form with Symantecs' Cafe, then take the code and integrate it into a shell script. I can't hardly wait for the JDBC to get done. Then it's really going to be fun. :-) Tim -- \\\\|// (6 6) ==============================---o00--(_)--00o---============================ Tim Schaefer tschaefe@encore.com tschaefe@shadow.net Encore Computer Corp (800)726-2230 x5608 http://www.shadow.net/~tschaefe =============================================================================
