archecker and BACKUP_FILTER
Posted in 2012
User reports archecker fails with "AC_RESTORE_FILTER is set. Must do physical restore only" error when attempting point-in-time restore with BACKUP_FILTER/RESTORE_FILTER enabled for compression. Expert confirms bug in archecker preventing compatibility with BACKUP_FILTER; upgrading from 11.70.UC1IE to 11.70.UC5IE did not resolve it. No fix identified; user advised to open support case with IBM.

Please excuse if asked and answered before:
My BACKUP_FILTER AND RESTORE_FILTER in $ONCONFIG are set:
BACKUP_FILTER /bin/gzip
RESTORE_FILTER /bin/gunzip
When I wish to do a restore to a "point in time" with archecker, I get the
response as set out below. Is this then to say that if one is compressing
one's backup then one is automatically excluded from restoring a table to a
certain point in time, but either one has to restore up to last physical
backup, or restore entire backup until current time?

CRITICAL ERROR: Unable to initialize extraction
There was a bug in archecker that prevented it from working with an archive
that was made using BACKUP_FILTER. It was eventually fixed, Your release
of 11.70 is a couple of years old. You probably should upgrade to a recent
release which will likely have the fix. You are on Innovator Edition, so
you can just download the latest and greatest and install it.

Hi I took your advice and re-installed - with IDS11.7.UC5IE .... and went through all the motions of updating the databases and was good to go. I did a level 0 backup (with BACKUP/RESTORE_FILTER set). Made note of time. Then I did a little bit if deleting, and made note of time. I backed up some more logs so that there were logs past the point in time I wanted to restore to. And I ran my command : and BAM !!! Same problem ..... I see same version :( Is there a later version [root@Server6 Backup]# archecker -tvs -f /home/bob/unloads/ac_cmdfile1 IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.70.UC5IE Program Name: archecker Version: 8.0 Released: 2012-06-19 22:09:01 CSDK: IBM Informix CSDK Version 3.50 ESQL: IBM Informix-ESQL Version 3.50.UN629 Compiled: 06/19/12 22:09 on Linux 2.6.18-128.el5PAE #1 SMP Wed Dec 17 12:02:33 EST 2008 AC_STORAGE /tmp AC_MSGPATH /tmp/ac_msg.log AC_VERBOSE on AC_TAPEDEV /u/Backup/Willy/ AC_TAPEBLOCK 32 KB AC_LTAPEDEV /u/Backup/Willy/ AC_LTAPEBLOCK 32 KB AC_RESTORE_FILTER /bin/gunzip Dropping old log control tables AC_RESTORE_FILTER is set. Yeah. I double checked this then forgot to post it. The problem was never fixed. You should open a case. How do I open a case - with IBM ?? It can't be that they don't know about it since September 2010?
They know about it, they just don't know how many users are affected. They may need a business case to be able to schedule developer time to fix it. Art Art S.
